Frequently Asked Questions

  • New in 2026, North York Cycles is excited to try to host weekly Tuesday evening group rides for road cyclists looking to improve their fitness.

This came from the need to help our riders build fitness, confidence, and knowledge. The goal is to be able to ride with the Sunday group (unless we have people who can lead a slower Sunday pace group - โ€œPace Group Bโ€).

  • This is for our road cyclists who are comfortable riding on the roads and trails and can maintain an average speed of 18-20 km/hr over a distance of 15 to 30km.

For your safety and ours, please do a self-assessment:

    • Riding Skill: Am I able to maintain an average speed of 18-20 km/hr across a distance of 15-30km?

    • Road Knowledge: Am I able to ride well on roads and can obey road rules?

    • Cycling Etiquette Knowledge: Am I aware of common road-cycling rules and etiquette? Can I obey and adhere to them? For information, go here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mE3U0uVa3nmrpMbxSblFSu04-77mXw0K/view

If you are able to achieve these three major things, then great - join us! If not, we kindly ask for our mutual safety that you do not join until you are ready.

  • Please see below for the dates on which we can host the intermediate group rides!

We meet on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. at Hendon Park (near the clubhouse/washroom/tennis court). There are washrooms and a water fountain for you to access before and after the ride.

  • The distances and pace will vary depending on the selected route. The routes may even change mid-ride due to unexpected road closures, hazards, or suggestions.

Typically, the distances are within 15 to 25km, with an average speed of 18 to 20 km/hr.

Riders are responsible for managing their own nutrition, hydration, and mechanicals during the ride.

  • We are generally a fair-weather ride group. This means we will cancel the event within hours due to weather-related risks, including heavy rain, severe heat, and other hazards that could put our riders in danger.

You are responsible for checking our website and/or social media to know if we have cancelled a ride!

If the weather changes during the ride (e.g., it starts raining), the ride will still continue till the group makes a decision. You are also encouraged to use your own personal discretion on weather conditions. Safety and health are number one.

  • Nope! We are simply a community group that wants to host free group rides. This is a wonderful opportunity to make friends and get active.
